December Race Report

Happy New Year All
I trust you all had a good Christmas, and it certainly was for STC as members squeeze out the last races of 2024.
Unfortunately, the first weekend of the month fell fowl to Storm Darragh with both round 3 of the Manchester Area Cross Country League and the Tatton Yule Yomp being cancelled due to the high winds that battered the Northwest. One race did go ahead, the Blackburn 10k which was attended by Simon braving the windy conditions.
Fortunately, the weather improved for the second weekend of the month. Saturday saw Janet get second for her age grade at the Run Through Tatton Park 10k. Meanwhile on the same day Paul.P made the trip to the Fylde coast to take part in the festively named Blackpool Rudolf 5 Mile Trail Run.
Paul was in action again the following day along with Steve.B, Dave, Nick, R, Paul.F & Mike.H at the popular Stockport 10 miler organise by our friends at Stockport Harriers. A great effort by all considering it was the annual STC Christmas Party the night before.
And so, onto the Christmas week and a number of races were available to help work off the turkey dinner.
First up was the Star &Garter Boxing Day 5k race again held by Stockport Harriers. On a murky Boxing Day morning we had 4 members running the 3-lap course in Stockport with Steve.B finishing 1st in his age grade.
The Sunday between Christmas and New Year saw the welcome return of the popular Crazy Legs Alderley Winter warmer. After a years break the (formally) Adlington Winter Warmer moved to it’s new venue of Alderley Park. A fun event where it's not how fast you are but how close you get to your predicted time that wins you the race. Yes you have to run with no watch, GPS or timing devices (or as the organisers call it “Naked”). 12 members submitted their predicted times and the aimed to get as close as possible to them with Dawn finishing within 2 seconds and claiming first prize.
The final day of 2024 saw the final race of the year with the hugely popular Bramhall Runners New Years Eve Bowstones Fell Race. A firm favourite with our members, 12 braved the (very) hilly 6.7 miles around Lyme Park to sign off 2024.
And that’s December and 2024 signed off.
I’m sure 2025 will bring plenty of races and achievements for our members
